TOM FIELD

Tom was born in 1954 in North Kingstown, RI. Although born in Rhode Island, Tom spent most of his boyhood in Maine (Mount Desert Island and later Bangor). He now lives in Beverly, Massachusetts.

In 1957, Tom was diagnosed with autism. Fortunately, it turned out to be a higher functioning form. In those days, the work of Hans Asperger was not yet widely recognized and accepted, so one was either autistic or they weren't.

Tom has enjoyed taking pictures since the age of 9.  At first, he was content to use the plastic instamatic cameras. In 1991, however, he decided to get more serious about photography and enter the world of SLR (Single Lens Reflex) cameras. That decision was inspired by 2 things: First, he admired the work of Ansel Adams. Second, he wanted to better capture the beauty that he saw in the world around him. His current medium is digital color photography.

Tom has also recently been dabbling in web design as an extension of his interest in digital photography. He developed his own web site from scratch using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and JQuery. Check it out at www.dotfphotography.com. By the way, these photos have all won ribbons (for honorable mention or higher) in photo competitions!
